AHREM was founded in July 2011 so that Arakan youths could benefit
from a higher level of education. It's location is in Mae Sod in the
north west of Thailand on the border with Burma/Myanmar.We have a
maximum of 20 students studying ESL ( English as a Second Language
),computer studies and human and environmental rights. All of them live
at the school.
The volunteer teachers whom we ask to stay a minimum
of three months can choose to either live at the school or find their
own accomodation. We also provide food for them,a bike and WIFI.
When we feel a student is ready to sit an entrance test to go on a
higher education programme,we send them for the test followed by an
interview with the school. Our students can't enter a school without the
recommendation of AHREM's managers. This is a general rule for all
organisations. Without AHREM they would likely still be in Burma with
little future.
All our students are Arakanese and are determined to
do something to help their people. They are choosen carefully and must
follow AHREM's rules. |
